Mellow Mondays

Its a very cold edition of Mellow Mondays today, the snow is on the ground and the time for wistful summer records has long since past. It's time to put another log on the fire sit back and enjoy the best of mellow music.  Its a bit of bumper piece this week with more tracks then usual, a couple old a couple new, grab them bellow.

Just such a calm track dating back from 2003. It's the perfect song for a cold afternoon. Chillwave does not get any better than this.
Another oldie dating back from 2003. Casiotone is an artist i was only pointed toward this week and have already fallen in love with the wordsmanship used in all of their records.

A newer number. This is such a subtlety brilliant track  a true must listen.

Another new record, not favorite track of the year, but a great one non the less.

Covers For The Large Part

There have been a number of really great covers coming through in the last couple of days . Some are already getting a lot of attention, and others not quite so much. My favorite of the lot has to be Ben Folds cover of Dr. Dre, I just really love indie covers of hip hop tracks. Hope you like.

John Rolodex Kmag Mix

John Rolodex has done and awesome mix for Knowledge Magazine and I implore that you give it a listen. I originally heard John Rolodex's Machine Gun Funk on the Metalheadz Americas Promo CD that came with Kmag back in 2004. Deep and dark. Although not a big name over here he definitely deserves to be.

P.s Anyone else think Magnum has a pretty sweet look?

The Best News Of The Year

Yes that's right boys and girls the magnificent Pulp have announced that they will be getting back together for a series of festival shows this summer. Shamelessly cashing in? Who cares, Pulp are back. Easily one of the greatest stories in music so far this year. The only dates so far announced are Barcelona's Primavera, and the London Wireless festival. I could not be more excited.

Mellow Mondays - M83

A bit of an oldie from 2003 here. Thought I would put up a couple of brilliant tracks from one of my favorite bands of all time, if you do anything today go buy a M83 album, all of them are brilliant but Saturdays = Youth is my personal favorite. The perfect band to get you though those mellow Mondays, especially as mid-terms are coming in hard and fast.

Unrecorded from the 2003 album Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts

Also check this out from the same band,  Skin of the Night from the album  Saterdays = Youth.

Also the first Album Review on Gruff Trade is now up, go check it out in the album review section.

LIfe's Too Short

Life's Too Short, or so we are told. It also happens to the title of the new, and very promising track from Wild Party, a really up beat number that is begging for a listen. A cut back Killers with a higher tempo? Only just far far more exciting, give it a listen bellow and see what you think.

Gold Fields

Sounding like a cut back Friendly Fires Treehouse is the the first single from Gold Fields getting its release on the 23rd of November. Recorded in their bedroom in Sydney this track has a nice DIY feel to it. Definatly a band to listen out for in the coming few months. Check out there earlier demos HERE. Give Treehouse a listen bellow and see what you think.

Tapes 'n Tapes

Freak Out is a really up-beat, exciting new track from the this Minnesota four peace, it resembles a return to form, and can't help but leave me eagerly anticipating there third studio release due early next year. The start of the Freak Out oddly enough reminds me of early Arctic Monkey demos, only with a american accent. Have a listen below and see what you think.

The Van Doos

These Londoners look set to make big wave in the coming months. There first track Tenderhooks is available as a free download here, and i really can't recommend grabbing it enough. It's a belter of a track. It's not hard to see why these guys are already starting to create a lot of buzz about themselves all over the blogosphere. This all for a band who still remain unsigned to any label, although i cant see that being the case for all that much longer, this is without a doubt a band to watch in 2011.
